OPPORTUNITIES KING III CREATES FOR COMMUNICATORS
Corporate communication will enter a new phase with the publishing of the King III Report on Corporate Governance for South Africa on 1 September 2009. The new chapter on stakeholder relationship governance will open the door to the boardroom for the communication manager who can meet top management’s expectations on stakeholder engagement and reputation management. The responsibility of boards to govern stakeholder relationships will include among others:
| • |
taking account of and responding to the legitimate interests and concerns of stakeholders |
| • |
appreciating how stakeholders’ perceptions affect a company’s reputation |
| • |
proactively governing relationships with the company’s stakeholders |
| • |
overseeing the identification and implementation of mechanisms and processes that promote enhanced levels of constructive stakeholder engagement |
Estelle de Beer, who represented the communication industry on the King III committee, will be taking us through the opportunities that King III present to you as communicator. |
